Bamo Stroimaterialy, one of Russia“s largest glass and multiple glass unit producers, is commissioning an enterprise to produce window glass in the Moscow region. Until now, window makers have not produced glass, buying it from special enterprises. The Bamo Float Glass enterprise will start up on 10 July in the industrial zone of Solnechnogorsk. The construction project absorbed $25.8 million in investment, of which US$ 13.5 million came from Sberbank. The enterprise will have an annual production capacity of 4.5 million sq. m. of float glass, manufactured using a horizontal drawing process where the molten glass is drawn out on a layer of molten tin. Because of the tin manufacturing process, float glass is a high quality, flat and a defect free product. The enterprise will also produce energy saving glass with a special covering, which keeps heat inside in winter and prevents solar gain in summer. Now 95% of such glass is imported into Russia. Bamo Stroimaterialy“s turnover stood at US$ 80 million in 2001. The total Russian glass market capacity is estimated at 50 million sq. m. per year.
