Portuguese glass product maker BA Vidro, formerly Fabrica de Vidros Barbosa & Almeida, posted a EUR 6.4 million (USD 6.8 million) profit for 2002, up 200% year-on-year, the company said on 3 February 2003. The company“s debt fell to some EUR 18 million (USD 19 million) at the end of 2002. The company“s consolidated sales rose by 10% year-on-year to EUR 173 million (USD 186 million). BA Vidro sales rose by 4.0% year-on-year in Portugal and by 1.0% year-on-year on Spain. The earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) totalled EUR 43.5 million (USD 46.6 million), up 18% year-on-year. The company reported earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of EUR 14.4 million (USD 15.4 million), up 91% year-on-year. BA Vidro consolidated output totalled 587,000 tonnes, up 6.0% year-on-year. Company employees totaled 1,220 at the end of 2002, of whom 733 in Portugal and 487 in Spain. BA Vidro has plants in Marinha Grande, central Portugal, in Avintes and Gaia, both in northwestern Portugal, and two plants in Spain.
