The Australian Government was accused of a bureaucratic error on 21 February 2001. The accusation came after Department of Industry officials disclosed that fibreglass and paper manufacturers had received Government grants. The grants were made under the Government“s $A 700 million textile, clothing and footwear assistance scheme. The Australian Labor Party said the disclosure had angered workers in the Australian textile industries that had or would be refused grants.
