The Board of Directors of the Association Services Corporation (ASC), a company providing management services to a number of glass-related trade associations, has announced Mr. Stanley L. Smith as its new President and as Executive Vice President of the Glass Association of North America (GANA). Smith joined the Topeka (Kansas, US) office at the beginning of November 2000. Stanley L. Smith received his Bachelor of Science degree from Pittsburg State University in Kansas and completed additional education in senior level management and engineering while in the military. Recently, Smith has served as the City Manager for the City of Concordia, Kansas and the City Administrator of Ulysses, Kansas. Prior to his public administration service, he was commissioned officer in the United States Army, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Smith already attended the GANA Fall Conference in Lake Tahoe in September and is now looking forward to working with all of ASC“s trade association accounts. Bill Birch, President and CEO of ASC since 1975, and the Executive Vice President of the Flat Glass Marketing Association from 1960 to 1975, will continue on as CEO of the Association Services Corporation until the end of 2000. From the beginning of 2001 he will remain on as GANA“s consultant. Birch feels very positive about Smith“s selection, describing him as a “positive, forward thinker with a can-do attitude”, and looks forward to “working with him in developing an understanding of the glass and fenestration industries”.
