Plate and safety glass maker PT Asahimas Flat Glass of Indonesia posted a net profit of Rp 13.2 billion (US$ 1.9 million) in the first nine months of this year, or a 182.2% increase from the same period last year. The company management attributed the rise to the strengthening of the rupiah against the US dollar. The management said increased demand for its products in the international market prompted the company to raise its selling prices in the export market. In the January-September period this year, the company recorded a 10% increase in its sales volume to 286,134 tons, and the sales value rose to Rp 567.25 billion from Rp 551.75 billion. The company has Rp 538.28 billion in short term debt in September out of its total debts of Rp 1.41 trillion.
