Asahi Glass Co. said it will boost output of caustic soda and chlorine in Indonesia to meet rising local demand. The company is to invest 3.8 billion yen in PT Asahimas Chemical, a local joint venture, to build more electrolytic facilities by April 2002. With the new facilities, PT Asahimas is expected to increase its annual caustic-soda production capacity by 86,000 metric tons to 371,000 tons. PT Asahimas, a major Indonesian maker of PVC-related products, may also increase PVC-resin production capacity. Indonesia“s caustic-soda market has reportedly reached 400,000 tons a year and is expected to grow 10% annually.
