Asahi Glass introduced an internal company system in April, establishing four internal companies: Sheet Glass, Automotive Glass, Displays and Chemicals. Of these, Luc Willame, president of the company“s Belgian subsidiary, was appointed president of Sheet Glass, and Jay Strong, president of the US subsidiary, was appointed president of Automotive Glass. Against the backdrop of globalizing markets, Asahi Glass is aiming to optimize placement of human resources on a global scale. Under this new framework, Sheet Glass is striving to maintain its top market share which it has already established, and to become “the world market leader in terms of earning capacity” said Luc Willame. The company will attempt to improve profitability by pushing forward with standardization of cost control, asset optimization and management systems under a global trilateral framework based on Japan, Asia and North America. Meanwhile, the largest issue facing Automotive Glass is to cope with the current situation in which the market is changing as a result of reorganization of automobile manufacturers.
