Japan“s glass Asahi Glass has commenced operations at Asahi Auto Glass (Foshan), its wholly-owned facility in Foshan, in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. Local newspaper Guangzhou Daily reported that the new plant, Asahi“s second in China, will serve Japanese automotive joint ventures in the province: Guangzhou Honda, Guangzhou Toyota and Dongfeng Nissan. The plant will produce laminated and tempered automotive glass. Built with an investment of USD 44 million, it will have a maximum output capacity of one million car sets per annum, the report said. The plant makes it possible for Asahi“s total automotive glass output capacity to reach around 2.2 million car sets per year in China. Asahi“s first facility, AGC Automotive (China) located in Qinhuangdao in Hebei province, has output capacity of about 1.2 million car sets per year, the report said. Asahi Glass currently holds a 30% share of the global automotive glass market, while more than 90% of global OEMs use its products.
