Asahi Glass Co. has begun supplying automobile glass that blocks infrared rays to Mitsubishi Motors Corp. for use in some Colt models the automaker released in May 2005. The new automobile door glass incorporates inorganic components that absorb infrared light. By altering the composition of the glass, the firm was able to cut sunlight penetration by 10% compared to standard door glass. This reduces discomfort from the sun“s glare and also decreases the load on the vehicle air conditioning system during the summer. The new glass complies with Japanese Ministry of Transport standards that require at least 70% of visible light to pass through front door glass.
