Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. has decided to build a new float glass furnace at its Glaverbel Czech A.S. subsidiary in the Czech Republic to serve rapidly growing demand for float glass from Central Europe, which is forecast to grow at 7-8% a year. The company will invest around EUR 100 million (about JPY 14.5 billion) to establish a third furnace with a capacity of 700 tonnes a day in the Czech Republic. Construction of the new furnace is scheduled to begin from the end of 2006 and volume production will start around the beginning of 2008. Glaverbel Czech A.S. was established by Asahi Glass subsidiary Glaverbel S.A. in 1990.
