16 April 1998: With sales to Anheuser-Busch now exceeding US$ 100 million, up more than 100% since 1997, Anchor Glass Container Corp. of the US has decided to retain St. Louis-based container industry veteran Robert H. McElroy as senior consultant, in order to help Anchor serve the brewing giant. “Bob knows the people, the plants, the products and the needs better than almost anyone outside Anheuser-Busch,” said Richard M. Deneau, president and chief operating officer of Anchor. Until 1990, McElroy was vice president and senior sales executive, with responsibility for Anheuser-Busch, at American National Can“s Foster Forbes Glass division. McElroy headed service to Anheuser-Busch for 25 years while at American National Can and its predecessor companies. A graduate of Syracuse University, McElroy has more than 40 years of experience in the container and packaging industry. Since 1990 he has chaired the Gateway Glass Recycling Alliance, a coalition of manufacturers and trade groups. Anchor Glass Container Corporation supplies beverage and food producers and consumer products manufacturers nationwide. It employs 4,500 workers at ten US locations. Parent company Consumers Packaging Inc. of Canada is an international designer and manufacturer of glass containers.
