In a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB), Turkish glass packaging maker Anadolu Cam said on 6 February 2006 that it will close its plant in Cayirova, in Gebze, northern Turkey, as of 5 March 2006. In so doing, Anadolu Cam has reversed its decision to invest in the renovation of the plant“s furnace. It will have to pay compensation to the 158 plant employees. The Cayirova plant has an annual production capacity of 60,000 tonnes. Anadolu Cam began production at its new glass packaging plant, called Anadolu Cam Yenisehir Sanayi, in the province of Bursa, north-west Turkey, in February 2006. The plant has an annual production capacity of 120,000 tonnes. Anadolu Cam is part of Turkish glassware and chemicals group Sisecam. Anadolu Cam produces bottles for food, water, beverages, fruit juice, dairy products, beer, wine, spirits, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
