According to a recent report, Amcor is to build $130 million wine bottle plant Melbourne, Australia. The Amcor plant would reportedly use technology from Heye, a leading German glass manufacturer and technology provider. The furnace would be on a world scale and the wine bottle forming machines would be the most productive in the world, the company said in a statement. “This is a very exciting opportunity for Amcor and further strengthens our position as the leading packaging company in Australasia,” Amcor“s managing director Russell Jones said. “The wine industry continues to experience high growth and it is recognised by the leading wine producers that a second glass manufacturer would be beneficial to their industry”. The plant would start operating in mid-2002. Sales were expected to be around US$ 80 million a year at full capacity, the company said.
