Packaging company Amcor Ltd. said on 23 July it had a smooth start to production at its new US$ 140 million glass plant in South Australia, which was finished ahead of schedule. Construction of the facility at Gawler near the Barossa Valley started less than 12 months ago. The company said the plant was completed on budget and five weeks ahead of schedule. Amcor Glass is currently producing around 600,000 bottles a day, which is in line with the plant“s annual production capacity of more than 200 million bottles. Amcor said bottles were produced for the premium segment of the wine industry.
