Amcor is building its AUD 150 million glass bottle plant, which is expected to be up and running from July 2002, at Gawler, north of Adelaide, Australia. The huge glass factory will be designed and built by Leighton Contractors. Some 200 jobs have been created by the construction project. The Amcor plant will be a rival to the giant ACI Ltd., which is building its own plant at Croydon, in South Australia. ACI is owned by Owens-Illinois of the US, which produces one out of every two wine bottles. Amcor has supply agreements with key wine producers in the Barossa Valley.
