Russell Jones, the managing director of Australia“s Amcor Ltd., said in September that it intends to consider greenfields developments in Asia to help boost sales growth in the region. Jones noted that Amcor, which is the third largest packaging company in the world, has already taken on greenfields developments in China, where it recently built two tobacco packaging plants. “So we“re more than happy to start on a clean base,” he said. Jones said earlier that Amcor would like the share of its business from Asia to increase but that opportunities in the region are difficult to find. “If opportunities arise then we would be more than wanting to support those opportunities,” he said. In August, Amcor posted a 18% increase in 2001-02 net profit to A$ 280.5 million, with recent acquisitions in Europe supporting its growth.
