21 January 1999: The European Commission authorized plans by Dutch chemicals group Akzo Nobel and Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel to each acquire a 24% interest in Dutch paints and glass distribution company Eijkelkamp Beheer NV. The remaining 52% of Eijkelkamp is to remain family controlled. The Commission said the linkup would pose no threat to competition in either decorative coatings or glass, despite the fact its Dutch market share for float glass would be in excess of 30%.
