17 June 1999: Air Liquide America Corporation recently announced the appointment of Pierre Dufour to the position of chief operating officer, reporting to Patrick Verschelde, president and CEO. In his new position, Dufour“s responsibilities will include operational leadership for Air Liquide America“s Merchant, Tonnage, and Electronics business lines. Dufour, originally from Canada, joined the Air Liquide Group in Paris in 1997 as vice president of Worldwide Engineering. In July 1998, in addition to Engineering, he was named group industrial director. In that capacity, he was responsible for the technical aspects of operations and maintenance for the Air Liquide Group worldwide. Before joining Air Liquide, Mr. Dufour was executive vice president of SNC-Lavalin, a leading engineering contractor. Air Liquide is a global producer of industrial and medical gases which employs over 28,000 people in sixty countries. It posted annual sales of FFr 39.9 billion (US$ 6.8 billion) in 1998. Sales outside France accounted for 75%.
