MSC & SGCC: Bringing vision base inspection to the next level

2011-07-01 | Containers

As with many sectors of the glass industry – and not only – quality is becoming more and more an essential feature. This article presents our readers with the latest development regarding inspection of containers – from MSC & SGCC – the new ‘smart tools’ of the MULTI4.

MSC & SGCC: Bringing vision base inspection to the next level
Facing current demand, hollow glass manufacturers have to increase the quality level of their production, especially with regards to the base area of articles. Jars and baby food containermanufacturers are particularly concerned by this challenge.
MSC & SGCC has developed new optical and software tools dedicated to the base inspection, enabling the highest possible precision on defect rejection and classification. These new features are fully integrated into the MULTI4 base and finish inspection machine. This is achievable with the operator friendly interface already known on MULTI4 andMCAL4 systems.
The new inspection capabilities have been developed, tested and qualified in partnership with some of the most representative glass container manufacturers in the baby food and jars sector. This cooperation has been decisive to bring MULTI4’s quality and precision of inspection to match the actual challenges and be ready for the continuous increasing of the quality and productivity demand.

MOULD SEAM RECOGNITION
When trying to get the best possible quality on baby food containers, mould seam recognition is critical in order to reach optimal detection performances while keeping a very low rate of false rejection. Bad mould seam recognition in the software is usually one of the most common origins to poor performances and/or high false rejection rate. The already existing object recognition tools of the MULTI4 base inspection system have been extended to face this challenge with new ...
