The effect of bottle shapes on mould openings
Bottles can have a myriad of shapes and geometries. The needs of clients are those of new shapes of containers to reach the interest of the market. Starting from this consideration, mould designers need to study and obtain series of moulds that can provide creativity, and give an important contribution to the development of graphical art.
Moulds with two- and threepart openings Most bottles are made using moulds with two-part openings:
round bottles obviously, but also bottles with rectangular and similar geometrical sections.
For bottles with highly elaborate shapes and sections, such as for example, diamond-decorated surfaces, engraved patterns or just triangular sections, it is necessary to create a mould with three- or even four-parts, so as to avoid interference between the glass and the mould in the opening phases (see diamond- decorated bottle sketch on Page 55). In this article, we will look at a bottle with a triangular section with which it is necessary to use a mould holder on which to position the three-part opening mould.

Triangular-shaped bottles
Triangular-shaped bottles have been produced using moulds with two-part openings without considering the extremely evident line of conjunction of the same moulds. The conjunction line on the centre of the opening side of the blank mould may not be very evident, due to the extension of theparison of glass during final blowing, this line could disappear in the blow mould if the conditions of the corners of the mould maintain...
