Defects on moulds: easy solutions - from the experts
Solutions are easy to find when they come from able and competent people
There are many different solutions to solve the problems that defects on moulds can cause to glass items, but if we do not know the right way to use these solutions we will never be able to obtain high quality finished items. There are basic rules to be followed to reach this goal, all coming from experience. First and foremost, knowledge about the quality
of the glass from the glassworks, such as, for example:
correct glass composition, along with homogeneity, viscosity, density, expansion coefficient, etc. For example, using a type of glass with 73 per cent silica and more than 10 per cent calcium, we could have excessive viscosity insider the container and, consequently, problems to the parison during its extension. It is therefore very important to know and assess the glass type to be able to take the correct action needed to improve its composition. We also need to have good experience regarding the design of moulds, preferably gained with many years of work in glassworks. These, in fact, are the fundamental conditions to be able to use the technological criteria to prevent defects to containers, following all work processes step by step.
