Heye International: new non-contact inspection features

2015-04-20 | Inspection

Gerd Schütz, Product Manager of Cold End Solutions, discusses continuous improvement of a stable and reliable inspection machine with Mark Ziegler, Marketing Manager, both at Heye International. Check detection for round and non-round bottles, detection of finish problems, non-contact bore gauge control and measurement of dimension and ovality are the cornerstones of Heye International’s enhanced cold end offer.

Heye International: new non-contact inspection features
Round and non-round check detection
Check detection is one of the most important quality inspections during the quality control of glass containers. Checks are often difficult to detect, at the same time responsible for critical errors. The very flexible Heye International solutions are able to inspect not only round but also non-round containers, which often cause problems to cold-end lines. Gerd Schuetz, Product Manager of Cold End Solutions, and his technical experts are ready to answer all client questions.

360° inspection of diameter and ovality
The non-contact diameter and ovality inspection module allows to inspect round bottles for minimum and maximum diameter and ovality at up to three levels.  Two sensors per inspection level on both sides of the container scan the sidewall of the spinning container. The sidewall of the container part hides the sensor area. Thus, the value of the sensor signal is related to the hidden area of the sensor. According to these signals, the dedicated software algorithm determines the container diameter and calculates the ovality continuously while the container rotates. Inspectable defects include maximum and minimum container diameter and ovality of the container.

Unfilled and overpressed finish
Heye’s camera unfilled finish inspection module allows to inspect bottles for incomplete and unfilled finishes, as well as overpressed inner edges. In addition, bottles with other sealing surface defects like chipped finishes, dirty finishes or si...
