Ghiver: 50 years of history – guaranteeing continuous quality

With the first machines manufactured before automatic production – in the 1960s – Ghiver, located in northern Italy, spoke to Glass Machinery Plants & Accessories about its history, its machinery starting from the GV 36 the company’s response to the market at that time, the GG 87, Ghiver’s flagship product in the 1980s, with 200 built, right up to the present day, with the GG 08 EM, managed mainly by electronic systems.

Ghiver manufactures from 12 to 15 plants a year, with the possibility of increasing these figures if needed
Speaking to Giovanni Ghilardi gave Glass Machinery Plants & Accessories an insider’s view on Ghiver, one of the most well-known companies of the Bergamo area, the company and its developments. Being founded in 1963, in fact, means that the company is now ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary, even if, says Ghilardi, they still feel like youngsters!
Ghiver was, in fact, founded in 1963. In 1976, the two founders separated their activities with the company becoming the sole ownership of Ghilardi. He continued to lead the company until his death in 2004.
By then, however, having started right at the bottom, in the workshop, his son Giovanni was ready to take the helm.

Working his way up
Ghilardi was proud to tell us that he began right from the bottom rung – the shop floor – when he was 15 years old, learning the ropes from the craftsmen who worked there, gaining complete knowledge of the machines that the company manufactured. After working in the workshop, he started to get experience in the commercial department and, at the same time, continued evening school to finish his studies.
What was really needed and important for Ghilardi was, however, the knowledge and experience of the specific sector, with its own particular logics.
“And,” says Ghilardi, “thanks to my father, his teaching and his advice, I have been able to lead the company on to the position it has today.”
