Does anyone know anything about a glassworks in Dumbarton started by James Dunlop of Garnkirk in 1700s? and by 1800 under the control of John Dixon? Jacob Dixon and his son both died and in 1831 and production came to a standstill. The works were bought by James Christie of Glasgow. I would appreciate any information about either of these production periods. If I know what sort of thigs they made perhaps I could find something. A relative of ours was a glass cutter in the area at this time and we believe he would have worked at this factory. Thanks Dwina.

3.5% - 6% neodymium doped phosphate glass.

Dear all,
I work for a solar engineering company in Canberra , Australia. In an effort to increase the efficiencies of our product for our next generation of receivers we would like to use an antireflective coating on the glass covering the panels. In particular we would like to use magnesium flouride as this seems tough and weather resistant.
Currently we are using a low iron, high transmission glass (3mm but this can be varied) which is uncoated.
I would like to hear from anyone who could meet our requirements either in coating glass we can supply or in supplying us with pre coated glass.

I recently experienced someone mitering 10mm tempered at a 45 degree angle. If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn'y have believed it. The gentlemen doing the edgework claimed that they do this all the time. I have heard that there is a certain of of glass on the edge of tempered glass which is not actually tempered. And the thicker the glass, the greater the amount of the glass which is not temeperd. How much should I believe? How does one determine how much can be ground off? Do these pieces, which are ground, have a greater chance of spontaneous breakage in the the future?
