Alkaline Earths
The alkaline earth metal oxides, or 'alkaline earths', are beryllia, magnesia, calcia, strontia and baria. All are used in glassmaking, with calcia and magnesia being particularly important in soda-lime glasses, and baria being used as a substitute for lead oxide in crystal-type glasses.
